What the buttons do
HintTwo stages. The first press tells you which clues to read; if you still can’t see it, the second press says which suspect you can prove. Cards you used a hint on show yellow in the result grid.
TagLeaves a colour mark on a card corner — your notepad. It changes no rules. Example: if a clue says two people are on different sides, paint both the same colour so you don’t miss the pair later. Works with right-click or long-press.
InspectTap a revealed card to see its clue in large type, with its terms explained (neighbour, corner, edge, even number…). The magnifier in the corner opens the same view.
ResetClears your progress on this case and starts it over. The puzzle stays the same — only your marks are gone.
How to play
- Your goal: work out which of the 20 people are guilty and which are innocent.
- Nothing is known outside the grid. The game starts with one open card; its clue gives you the first move.
- Tap a card and choose 😇 or 😈. Get it right and the card opens — that person’s clue appears on it, and the chain continues.
- You cannot guess. A choice that isn’t yet provable is blocked. If you’re blocked, you missed a clue — every puzzle is machine-verified.
- Everyone is either guilty or innocent, and everyone tells the truth — criminals included.
- Jobs make nobody innocent; a police officer can be as guilty as a driver.
- Neighbours: the touching cards including diagonals — up to 8 people.
- Rows run across (1–5), columns down (A–D). Above / below means the whole column that way, left / right the whole row.
- Exactly means exactly. Same side = both guilty or both innocent.
- Corners are the four corner cards. Even is 0, 2, 4…; odd is 1, 3, 5…
- Tap a name or job inside a clue and the cards it refers to are outlined.
- Tapping an open card dims its clue. In tag mode, tapping leaves a colour mark.

Free online daily murder mystery puzzles
Detective Grid is a free online murder mystery puzzle you play in the browser — no download, no account. Twenty suspects sit in a grid. Each card you open reveals a clue, and those clues are the only evidence you get.
How the clue puzzle works
Every clue is a precise, checkable statement: how many criminals sit in a row, how many neighbours a suspect has, which people share the same status, what happens if someone is guilty. Combine two or three clues and one more suspect becomes certain.
A logic puzzle, not a guessing game
You can never guess here. If a move is not yet provable, the game blocks it and tells you why. Every puzzle is machine-verified: exactly one solution, reachable by forced deductions. A new case is posted every day.
